Computer Security & Viruses/McAfee constant updates
Expert: James Filmer - 4/18/2011
QuestionAre you able to offer suggestions as to why my Internet Security 2011 that I purchased would constantly tell me that it has updated and that I need to restart my computer? I get these messages daily, more than once a day. I'm running on Windows Vista (basic) and have never had this issue with the software before. I have uninstalled and tried to reinstall and it did not fix. I have also done numerous scans and they all come back clear.
AnswerHi Dean,
"McAfee takes an over-tolerant approach to scareware programs. Malwarebytes does not, and is constantly updating its database to cover new variants..."
That's a quote by Hayton, Volunteer Moderator on McAfee's community forum:

There are several posts over 3 pages about similar problems.
Essentially, it appears Malwarebytes -
http://bit.ly/eGE69M - will resolve the issue. If you can't download and install it in regular mode, open in Safe Mode with Networking, download, install, update, run, remove. The free version should resolve the problem, the full version does the same thing, but gives you real time protection, automatic malicious site protection, scanner and update scheduler and priority customer support.
Don't know if you have any anti-spyware applications, but you should have at least one, two or more is fine too, as long as they're not all providing real-time protection.
http://enrgy21.com home page has Windows Defender, Lavasoft Ad-aware, SuperAntispyware and Malwarebyte links, if interested.
Let me know if you have any problems.
