Question
Hi Keith,
I can't update my avg rescue cd offline.I have a usb with with the update file on it.It always says update failed. My usb drive is recognized by avg cd and the avg folder containing the update file is also recognized by the rescue cd.I then navigate to the folder that holds the update file and put it into the text field as directed,I click ok and it then say update failed. The usb is format Fat.I don't know if you are familiar with this cd,hope you can help.

I recently had a virus which would not let me online to get virus updates for antivirus programs or even let me open the antivirus programs on my computer. So that is why I want to get the updates from a clean computer and transfer to the rescue cd {via the usb} on the infected pc when the need arises. Thanks Charlie.

Answer
Could be a format problem due to the USB being FAT and your hard drive most likely being NTFS. I googled your problem and came up with this: http://twitter.blog.avg.com/2011/03/avg-.html
I wish I was more familiar but I am not. I also came across this but did not have time to delve too deep into it. Seems it has a wealth of info. http://www.avg.com/us-en/avg-rescue-cd#tba3
Let me know how it goes so I can learn too.
