Computer Security & Viruses/Belladonna Virus?
Expert: Keith Davis - 7/7/2011
QuestionSomeone seems to have posted the same problem that my Uncle seems to have right now a couple of weeks back to you and hence I thought I'd check if you had any update on it.
When ever I start my laptop, once Windows boots, I get a pop-up that says 'BELLADONNA - CODE 21910 ACTIVATED'
This started only recently when I connected a friend's pendrive to my laptop. AVG didn't find any problem with it but I couldn't "safely eject the pendrive". From the next boot of the computer, the pop-up started.
My OS is WIN XP and I use AVG Free Antivirus that is up-to-date. Unlike the previous poster I have not yet tried reinstalling the OS or changing the OS.
Google only shows the previous post on the topic addressed to you on this website so it doesn't look like this is common.
AnswerThis is very perplexing for me. I guess that is one reason I volunteer here. I like solving problems. This one has me stumped!? Because I've never heard of the virus but one other time I have googled it. The only things I come up with are this:
http://en.allexperts.com/q/Computer-Security-Viruses-1737/2011/6/belladonna-viru... This is where I was asked the question before. If you google BELLADONNA - CODE 21910 ACTIVATED without quotes you come up with things like this:
http://www.docstoc.com/docs/4205316/Long-term-Care-Drug-Database-System-Drugs-by...
and other things about pharmaceuticals.
If you just google Belladonna you come up with links to a pornographic actress, plants, and things like this:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/531.html
If you google "CODE 21910 ACTIVATED" you get the links where I got the question before. Without quotes you get everything from hits on the number 21910, same on "codes", to keygen software (only because of the word "code").
I am still stumped. Maybe more info will come out from symantec or the other security software vendors.
Sorry I could not be of more help.
