Computer Security & Viruses/Fresh XP Install

Question
I now have my son's laptop. I would like to reinstall XP to it. I realize that I will need to reinstall all the updates, etc. Do you have any recommendations? My son graduated college and if has lots of stuff on it. I would like it to be like new....hence the fresh install. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Jaye

As long as you have the original XP CD or a separate recovery partition on the hard drive, you can reinstall XP very easily.  You just need to allot yourself some time for the install and the downloading/installing of updates.  It will usually take me several hours on a fast connection, depending on how quick the machine is for all the reboots.
A few questions for you before I can offer more detailed advice: Do you have the original CD?  What make/model laptop is it?  Finally, how do you plan on using the new-old laptop: Internet and light document work, or photoshop and heavy office work?
