Computer Security & Viruses/blue screens
Expert: James Filmer - 9/18/2011
QuestionI've had blue screens a number of times in the past, and lately they are coming up often. Usually they refer to driver problems. McAfee offers a program called Driver Update, which they claim will solve such driver problems by installing the latest versions of my drivers. Their ad is a year old, and their price for the program is $29.95.
Would you advise me to go for this, or do you have a better idea?
Thanks -
AnswerBill,
I would not suggest buying Driver Update at this point unless you're absolutely positive it's a driver. Even then you may not need to buy that programs, even if it is.
I would need more info before I could correctly analyze and fix it.
Start here:
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1647&page=3 just to understand more about it.
Then go here:
http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm
and here:

I'm aware you probably won't understand most of the terms or what to do exactly. However, I want to give you a better idea of what you're dealing with, and the kind of info I would need.
I'm willing to help here for a couple of posts - please provide you system details and copy the all-caps error code and hexadecimal values shown above. Did you recently install hardware or software or make any changes or upgrades? Are you able to successful access and install ALL Microsoft critical security updates?
If we need to go further in analyzing and correcting the problem (after trying here), we could continue very contact info on enrgy21.com
