Computer Security & Viruses/S3Tray - flashing screen windows 7

Question
Hello again Brian,
As you have helped me in the past I do hope you can help me with this one!  New clean install of windows 7 on a 4 yr old pc.  Sound initially a problem but almost sorted.  Then the screen has worsened.  Symptoms, flashing especially in windows live mail and google earth.  Having spent some time trying to sort it myself, I now think I know what the problem is.  There is an add on windows showing S3 tray which obviously has something to do with screen.  It must be an old bug which has cropped from somewhere as it won't let me change from an old CRT monitor to a LCD monitor.  I try to unisntall this S3 thing and each time it returns.  I suppose it is sending my registry keys adrift.  Hope you can help.  I will upload both the Hijack this and an auto run next and await your reply.  Thanks in anticipation.
*** p.s. having trouble uploading the files, back soon

Answer
Hi Steve

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.  The HJT log you sent is clean, so you don't have to worry about malware.  The flashing you see sounds like a driver or hardware problem.  S3Tray is a utility for adjusting the display in certain video cards and motherboards.  My suggestion would be to go to your computer manufacturer's support site and download the latest drivers for Windows 7...especially the graphics drivers.  If you are unable to locate them, let me have the make and model numbers and I'll see if I can find something.
