Computer Security & Viruses/Blank window potential virus?

Hi, I am inquiring about this on behalf of a friend, she has Windows XP, and I think she may have a virus, but I'm not totally sure. It is a Dell desktop computer, older model..not sure of the model or year. I tried google, youtube and help from friends to search for help on this, as I have never seen anything like it. I also do not know what anti virus she is running, I didn't notice, but she told me she has an anti virus program and it is up to date. This is a screenshot of her desktop, there is a blank page (looks to be internet window) that will not close, you can't even close it with task manager,and also system restore didn't fix it either. And it just randomly popped up and wouldn't go away. Any ideas or imput will be greatly appreciated, she is trying to avoid having to reformat her whole computer. Thank you! :)

Hello Mellisa,

Looks like a background image implanted within the Desktop. The image requires to be deleted from its actual folder.

-->Click on Start
-->Then scroll to and click on Run
-->Then copy and paste this line without the quotes and press ENTER

Once inside, right click on an empty spot and select View As Thumbnails
-->Now locate the image(which in this case is a brightly white square) and delete it

If the image is missing in the above directory, please try these lines instead. Copy and Paste them as you did on the RUN interface, and press ENTER

"C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox"

"C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer"

or the final location to look at is

If you have confirmed presence and deletion of the image, empty the recycle bin and restart the system.

All should be well now.

Kind Regards,
