Computer Security & Viruses/Child safe computing

Question
Hello.
My wife and I are going to be getting a foster child. The worst case scenario is an angry tech-savvy hacker with the whole summer ahead of them. We have a desktop running WinXP, a couple of laptops running Win-7, an Android tablet and iPhones. Our internet goes through a router that currently filters by MAC address. What do you recommend to both control internet access and safeguard our personal info?
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Chris,

Because you mention a child, I'd suggest adding a content filtering tool.

Since I don't know what security tools (anti-virus, anti-spyware, Firewall applications) you use, I can't suggest what you might consider adding.

Regarding safeguarding personal info, encryption of your personal info is a big plus.

Note: Pick a tool name and use Alternativeto.net (search bar upper right) for even more choices.
