Question
Dear Keith

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_private_network
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_Desktop_Protocol

What could be the probable reasons that one is unable to establish connectivity to a VPN Server using VPN Client software ?.

Many times one is unable to establish connectivity to the VPN Server.

But one is always able to establish connectivity to a RDP Server using RDP Client software.

Awaiting your reply,

Thanks & Regards,

Answer
Based on what they are, Virtual Private Network and Remote Desktop Protocol (VPN you have network access, RDP you have control of one computer), I would guess network security is higher than the security of a single pc. This could cause problems due to permissions, passwords, and so forth. Plus, in many instances you have to actually have a pc/laptop at the location and log in every so often to keep these permissions. If not you will not be able to log in VPN. With RDP, the single computer you are logging into only has to be on (or have wake on LAN enabled), and Remote access enabled.
