Computer Security & Viruses/Finding Discount

Hello Brian,

I received your message from (I sent you an e-mail). The computer has been running smoother, but I can still see Finding Discount in my Control Panel. A new display keeps popping up now that reads: "VzDisplayAgent2.exe - Entry Point Not Found." The message reads, "The procedure entry point_CxxFrameHandler3 could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll." I hit ok and it disappears only to come back later.

I ran your full diagnostics a couple of times since my last e-mail, so I hope I can give you the logs that are accurate. I will provide you with the latest log for Adware Removal and Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit:

Hi David

Let's deal with the error first.  Try uninstalling Verizon's In Home Agent from your Control Panel.  What most likely happened was that program replaced the Windows file msvcrt.dll with it's own incompatible version.  Best way to fix it is to run the Windows Recovery Console and reinstall the library file.  Microsoft has a bulletin on the procedure:

As for Finding Discount, you say it is showing in your Control Panel.  I assume you mean under the Add/Remove programs section.  It is probably just a leftover placeholder, as the program itself is not showing up anywhere in the scans anymore.  You can click to uninstall, then you will receive a message that it can't be uninstalled, do you want to remove the entry?  Click Yes.  If that does not work, you can try the free RevoUninstaller:

That program will remove any leftover entries.

I also see that Adwcleaner found Taplika New Tab, which is a browser hijacker.  The scan removed it from the registry, but you may need to remove it from your Chrome extensions.  In Chrome, under Tools > Settings > Extensions, remove any checkmark and click on the garbage bin to the right of the Taplika New Tab entry.

Let me know how you make out.
