About Lorry
Expertise
I can answer most questions regarding viruses/Trojans and help to remove them.

Experience
This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.

Computer Security & Viruses - The Adware.EliteBar virus

Expert: Lorry - 5/9/2005

Question
I have Norton AntiVirus 2005 software and it has picked up a virus in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\temperror32.dat directory. It says that it is part of the Adware.EliteBar. I have tryed to delete this file numerous times, but it keeps coming back. I also have checked the symantec website for removal tips, but with no luck at all (even though it guides you through the process of supposidly getting rid of it, it didn't work). Worst of all, pop-up windows come up whenever I start up Windows XP or even try to use the internet. I am not that good with computers and need help on this issue. All I want is for the adware-virus to dissapear. Thank You for helping!

Answer
Hi David,

If you are not that knowledgeable about computers, perhaps you should have a friend help you. If you follow the steps to remove the adaware at the SARC site, step by step, in the order they are given, it will remove the adware. Trust me on this one, have removed it from a few computers.

Be very careful when changing things in the Registry.

Hope this helps!
