Computer Security & Viruses/Deleting an Exploit virus!!

Question
First of all, I have Zone Alarm firewall and Symantec Antivirus program. My anti-virus prog. detected a virus called:

  MHTMLRedir.Exploit

My anti-virus prog. can't delete it. Right now it's in quarantine. It can't be cleaned or deleted/removed. It may not bother me anymore, but just the same I want to get rid of it. How do I remove it? If I have to reboot on safe mode, I can't seem to do it! I have WinMe.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Rene,

Once Norton AntiVirus places the virus in Quarantine, it can do no more damage. To remove it from Quarantine, open that window, highlight the virus name and click the red X to Delete Item.

Because this is an exploit only, there are no removal instructions, since there is nothing to remove. This is a detection for the exploit, preventing the execution of malicious content on your computer. By detecting the exploit, it is prevented from running.

From: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/mhtmlredir.exploit.html

Make sure that you LiveUpdate is set to automatically run. Usually Norton puts out new protection on Wednesday and Sunday evenings, so it would be a good idea to run a virus scan on Thursday and Monday mornings.

BTW, there is new protection today, make sure that it downloaded and then run a virus scan afterwards.

Hope this helps!

This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.
