Computer Security & Viruses/Deleting Viruses

Question
I did follow the suggestions on http://sarc.com which were as follows: Disable system restore, update the virus defintions, restart the computer in safe mode, run a full system scan and delete all the files deteced as Trojan.ByteVerify.

I couldn't update the virus definition, because I don't have their software that's required from them.  I couldn't delete the virus infected files because my software wouldn't quarantine it or allow me to.

Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Sallie,

removal instructions

The following instructions pertain to all current and recent Symantec antivirus products, including the Symantec AntiVirus and Norton AntiVirus product lines.

  1. Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).
  2. Update the virus definitions.
  3. Restart the computer in Safe mode or VGA mode.
  4. Run a full system scan and delete all the files detected as Trojan.ByteVerify.

When it comes to the part of running a full system scan(#4), run the scan again at http://sarc.com/  Or you could go to the following site and download a 15 day trial of Norton AntiVirus:

http://nct.digitalriver.com/0001/

Hope this helps!

This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.
