Question Doug,
Having a problem with my Gateway laptop, Windows XP. One day the Firefox browser stopped connecting to the internet, though the computer said the network was connected. (I don't think the cable modem is at fault: my other computers in the network continue to have internet connection). Here's what I've done:
-Plugged directly into the cable modem (no change)
-Disabled the firewall (no change)
-Opened Internet Explorer. It works, but often locks up for a VERY long time, especially when opening a new window.
-I ran Ad aware, which uncovered and deleted 44 tracking cookies, but this didn't help
-Symantec anti-virus recently discovered and deleted a trojan called trojan.zonebac, but other than that, it says the computer is virus-free
-Did virus scan in safe mode with Symantec and Zone Alarm, no virus
-Downloaded Opera; it cannot connect to the internet either
What could be causing my internet connectivity problems?
Thanks,
Scott
Answer Hi Scott,
its possible the Firefox update that was put out this weekend tried to do a auto update and got screwed up somehow. Do you have Firefox set for auto updates? I would re-install it.
Are your MS Updates current? I dont know how IE would be affected by this problem..
Have you tried doing a restore?
Let me know.
