About Lorry
Expertise
I can answer most questions regarding viruses/Trojans and help to remove them.

Experience
This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.

Question
Hi Lorry,
My question is that for the past month or so I keep getting a message that pops up saying"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close."
Then it says send error report and when I hit that, I loose everything that Im on. I dont know what this is buts its very annoying. What can this be & how can I fix it?
Thanks so much ...Donna

Answer
Hi Donna,

This might be may occur if use an old HP printer driver or an old HP scanner driver. Check out the following from Microsoft:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=821690

Another reason is that there might be a virus on the computer. Using Internet Explorer, go to:

http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym

Click the GO button, then under Virus Detection, click Start. You might be told that you need to download and install ActiveX Controls for the scan to work, answer Yes.

Write down exactly anything it finds, then go to: http://www.symantec.com/search/  and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.

Once you have the virus(s) removed, you can go to: http://nct.digitalriver.com/0001/  and download a trial version of Norton AntiVirus for 10 days. That should give you time to purchase an anti-virus program.

Hope this helps!
Lorry
