Computer Security & Viruses - Virus

Expert: Carolyn Meinel - 10/13/2007

Question
I appear to have been hit by some kind of Virus.  I keeps popping this screen up on my computer saying
"Web Page Unavailable While Offline"
The Webpage you requested is not available offline.
To view this page, click Connect.

Then when you attempt to either exist the message or hit stay offline it attempts to load a webpage, over and over and over.

I have to do a hard shut down in order to make it stop.

Answer
First of all, have you tried doing nothing when you get this message? With most varieties of browsers, you can just ignore the message.

If it still keeps on trying to load even if you don't click anything, then you might have an adware or spyware infection. For instant free help, try Ad-aware,
http://lavasoft.element5.com/software/adaware, and Spybot, http://www.safer-networking.org. You can use one or both together, as they are compatible.
