Question
Dear Lorry.my norton security told me i had a 'download trojan' on my computer [ which 2 days earlier had been trying to access the internet, which i blocked].It dealt with the virus by quaranteeing it.Should i just forget about it now,or try to delete it?After reading the virus encyclopedia it said i should disable system restore, start up in safe mode, then scan and delete if the trojan shows up on scan.Does that make it safe to delete the virus from quarenteen or am i talking rubbish.I feel a little out of my depth here and would appreciate your advice. Also it said something about system32,is that the file that was infected. Many thanks

Answer
Hi Michael,

I would suggest verifying the fact that Norton stopped the Download Trojan first. Run LiveUpdate and then run a virus scan. If it comes up clean, open Norton AntiVirus, click Reports, then click View Quarantined Items, highlight what is there and click Delete Item.

If NAV does find something, click what it finds to take you to the site with the information on the virus and how to remove. It's important to disable System Restore before removing a virus basically if you do not, the virus will show up again on restart and do further damage. After removing any viruses, reboot and enable System Restore.

Hope this helps!

This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.
