Question
i need help removing an existing trojan virus on my daughters dell computer. it has a pent4, xp os and is one year old. we have spyware, microsoft anti spyware and adware. none of these have been able to remove it. the norton antivirus which came with the computer has expired. do i need to reactivate it to safely remove the trojan or is there an easier way. thank you.

Answer
Hi Joe,

I would look for a sale on Norton Antivirus that includes a rebate for previous owners. In the meantime, go to: http://sarc.com/  Scroll down and click on,"Free Online Virus and Security Check"  Write down exactly anything it finds, then return to: http://sarc.com/  and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually.

You really should have an antivirus program installed, update it once a week and then run a virus scan afterwards.

Hope this helps!

This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.
