Hi Lorry,

The w32-rontokbro@mm worm is currently on my home pc and I just realised that it made its way onto my portable flash drive! Is there any way to remove it from my flash drive, and how will it affect all that I have stored on it?

Hi Dara,

Using Internet Explorer, go to:

http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym

Click the GO button, then under Virus Detection, click Start. You might be told that you need to download and install ActiveX Controls for the scan to work, answer Yes.

Write down exactly anything it finds, then go to: http://www.symantec.com/search/  and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.

Most AV programs will scan just what you want them to do. Saying that, plug in the flash drive and scan that. Otherwise, after doing the above on the computer, delete everything on the flash drive, then put back on the information you want.

Time consuming but worth it.
