why is it taking so long? is there any internet security suite you would suggest ..or should i go in for simple software...i do get lots of mail to so antispam is also needed?

Answer
The most likely reason that some of your programs took a long time to open is that they were trying to reach the Internet and Zone Alarm was analyzing them to see if they were a security risk. Once you instruct Zone Alarm to let these programs access the Internet, then there should be no delay.

If you still decide you don't want to use Zone Alarm, one of the best Internet security suites also allows a free trial, http://www.f-secure.com/home_user/support_and_downloads/evaluations/

Although F-Secure is not well known in the U.S., last time I checked it was the most popular home security software world wide.
