Question
QUESTION: Right, ive got two problems with my sound for games. One is for Cod 2 and Dark messiah mm. Both i am having problems with the sound, for cod i got it when it first came out and it worked fine, the other day i decided to play it, started a new campaign, got my mosin nagant, and it souded like a cannon, going off. Then when i got my PPSH it sounded more like a rapid silenced pistol. i dont know if there is a problem but thats not what they sounded like when i first got it. For dark messiah, i get on to the Stonehelm invasion (chapter 2 if that helps)and there was no talking and my speakers were on. So if you've got anything that helps then thanks. If you want my DXDiag then i can send that. Thanks

ANSWER: You might want to check to see if the game has any updates, as well as to check for your sound settings. Generally if you have things like 5.1 Surround on, and you don't have surround sound, or your card doesn't support it, then sound oddities will occur.
You can try re-installing the sound card, that might fix some things. Another might be to look around sound settings and tweak some stuff. Especially with hardware acceleration.

If you don't have a specialized card for sound, you might want to consider buying in, not just for this particular issue, but for quality in general. Then you know exactly what kind of card you have, and can keep it updated.

Might I recommend anything from Creative, especially their Sound Blaster lineup.

Hope this helps.

QUESTION: So can you reccomend any sound cards for a Dell dimension 5150 please. My current sound card name is sigmaTel Audio witch came with the machine. Anyway, thanks alot for the help, ill go and look for any updates. :)

Answer
Personally, I use a Sound Blaster Audigy SE. It's a nice value at around $30 at Walmart of Best Buy. It works fine with Windows XP, Windows XP x64 Professional, and Windows Vista. (Personally tested it out myself.) It supports EAX and 5.1 surround sound. I personally found it worth the money.
