Age of Empires is a Real Time Strategy game where you control an empire from it's birth up to it's conquer.

The most recent version of Age of Empires is Age of Empires 3, which includes 1 released expansion pack, and 1 expansion pack planned for release. The third version takes place in the colonial age and consists of European countries like Britain, who are fighting to claim the new world.

Real Time Strategy games are games where you control many units on a birds-eye view or isometric styled map, in an attempt to over power and take out the enemy. They often require that you collect resources such as wood, coin, stone, food, etc but this system varies from game to game. (For example, in Supreme Commander, you don't collect resources, but rather set up an income, and avoid going below that income.)
They generally include a campaign (story) mode, skirmish mode against the computer and an online multi-player style which allows you to play with real people online.
