Conducting - Conducting 2/2

Expert: Kenneth Renshaw - 2/18/2008

Question
How do you conduct 2/2? Also is there any other ones that that show up a lot in music? I already know how to do 4/4. Thanks!

Answer
Hi, Crystal, thanks for writing.  2/2 (or 2/4, or anything with 2 on top) is conducted with a downbeat on 1, bouncing up slightly, then down to the level 1 was bounced and bounce back up to the level to start 1 again.  In other words, 1-down, 2-up with a bounce on each.  If you wouldn't mind sending your email, I can send a jpg file with all the common patterns on it (2, 3, 4, and 6).  The AllExperts responder will only work with text.  Write anytime!
