Question
well, i am from a high school concert band of about 45 musicians. i have no musical background, i played trumpet for about 3 years now, and have some background on theory. what i wanted to know is what is the basic requirements to become a conductor and what is the main things that a conductor should do and what to expect by the musicians.

Answer
Hello,

I think I addressed those things in my reply from a month or so ago. A conductor needs to have an overall view of how the piece should sound and what to do to make it sound that way. This includes being an excellent musician, knowing how to run a rehearsal, and of course having the necessary conducting technique to lead the ensemble musically.

If there are more specific questions you have, please let me know.

Best,
Ellen
