Question
Hi, I had a large Norway Spruce planted in my yard last September. It has a trunk approx. 4 inches in diameter. It did well through the winter but is now getting very thin and brown. I have watered it as we have had a very dry spring here in Wisconsin. Can this tree be saved? What can I do? Thanks for your help.

Answer
I think you may have just winter injury but I would suggest you contact the Wicconsin Forestry State agency and ask them for assistence. They have a Forest Health staff and they can give you the assistence you need. My counterpart in Wisconsin is Jane Cummings Carlson, Jane will be able to answer your concerns--her contact information is: Jane Cummings Carlson - Forest Health Coordinator 608-275-3273; email--jane.cummings-carlson@dnr.state.wi.us. You can tell her I refered her to you.
