Question
How do you start growing a Spruce or Pine from its cone?

Answer
Like all conifers Spruce and pine produce seeds in cones. The first thing to do is the air dry the cones at 70-75 degrees F for about 14-21 days. Then shake or pull out the seeds. The seeds can than be planted in potting soil in egg cartons covering the seed with 1/4 inch of soil (2 per egg hole) . Put at room temperature 75 degrees for about 45-60 days. Keep moist but not wet. These new seedlings can be transplanted out after they get large enough.
