Question
I am completing a manuscript that is set in Texas, Memorial Park to be specific.  Can you tell me anything about the types of trees one might expect to see in the Houston area?  Can it be that specific?  I'm looking for information on all types of vegetation in the area, especially the park areas, so that I can make a more complete picture.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Rick

Answer
I suggest you contact the Parks department of the City of Houston. They were in the process of hiring a Forester and their web site has some discription of the parks. I am sure they can help. Here is their web link : http://www.ci.houston.tx.us/pr/index.html

Also the Texas Forest Service has an excellent Urban Forestry program and I feel sure they can help. Here is a link to their Urban Forestry offices and you can select and contact the one nearest Houston. http://txforestservice.tamu.edu/shared/article.asp?DocumentID=541&mc=urban
