About Rabbi Barry Dov Lerner
Expertise Write to me with questions about Jewish customs and law, history,
philosophy and tradition for answers from a Conservative perspective or conversion. I am a graduate of The Jewish Theological Seminary and a member of the Conservative Rabbinical Assembly. Having served in congregational pulpits since 1970, I now am President of the Foundation For Family Education, Inc. a non-profit educational endeavor. I established it to create new formats of hands-on programs and provide free educational downloads at www.jewishfreeware.org. In addition to general informational questions I welcome your questions about programs for social action, outreach to dual-faith families, inter-faith clergy projects, healing services, education for conversion, adult education for the congregation and the community. If you have questions about Informal and Formal Education I am ready to share my extensive experience with Youth Activities, Camping and Religious School/Hebrew High School on a congregational, community and national/international level.
Experience I have served on the National Youth Commission for more than 25 years and serve on the Boards of the Conservative Zionist movement MERCAZ and the World Council of Synagogues. I have always dual-families and taught candidates for conversion with a great sense of fulfillment. I am very proud of 25 years on the Jewish camping staff of Camps Ramah. My greatest source of pride is my family! Ask me about them, please!:-)

Question QUESTION: Hello,Sir, I am trying to convert to conservative Judaism, and live the rural south. I had read in a previous post you may be willing to connect one to a Rabbi, and I was hoping perhaps you could do this for me. I have been studying now for over six months, and I continue to pile up unanswered questions.
ANSWER: Dear Patrick,
Thank you for writing, and I would ask you were you live, and where are the closest cities where you will find a synagogue.
I look forward to helping you and wish you well.
Rabbi Dov

QUESTION: I live outside of Statesville, Nc. There is a conservative congregation there, but they rarely meet, and I have called and wrote, but no one has answered. The nearest would be Charlotte witch is nearly sixty miles away. The other option would be Winston-Salem, witch is also about sixty miles. I have sent e-mails to a Rabbi in Charlotte, but no answers have ever returned.
Answer Dear Patrick,
Thanks for responding.
I suspect that perhaps no Rabbi is there, but not too far away is Bethe David in
804 Winview Terrace
Greensboro, North Carolina 27410
336-294-0007
Rabbi Eli Havivi is a personal friend and a trusted colleague. Please call the congregation and arrange a mutually convenient meeting. He can be reached at <ehavivi@bethdavidsynagogue.org>
Rabbi Murray Ezring who was in Temple Israel in Charlotte is a friend of very long standing. You could try reaching him at the synagogue <rabbiezring@templeisraelnc.org>
Good luck
Rabbi Dov
