Conservative Judaism/Birth of baby girl

Question
There seems to be almost no information available on a ceremony for the birth of a jewish baby girl except for a "naming ceremony" linked to the public reading of the Torah - a special "Mi Sheberach".
I am the baby's grandfather and would like to say a few words and give an appropriate blessing.

Answer
Dear Matt,

I'm sorry that Comcast has been down and only "up" occasionally in my neighborhood. I don't know when this message will go out and reach you, but I hope that it is soon.

First of all mazal tov.

Secondly, your children's Rabbi is the official Rabbinic voice in this matter, and after him/her your own Rabbi. Sometimes the two Rabbis can collaborate in a helpful fashion.

I would offer some suggesions programatically that might be useful:

(1) Following the MiSheBerakh and naming ceremony at the Torah to which you can invite family and friends, you might wish to have a Kiddush or celebration at which moment you could say a few words - probably in your own mind the history of the names and their importance to you as grandparents.

(2) Consider a home celebration to follow - for which there are additional readings and prayers, e.g. http://shamash.org/trb/judaism.html and a wide variety of internet resources for birth and naming ceremonies.
Similarly, your Rabbi has many probably in the "Manual" and also personal files.

Best wishes and mazal tov - whenever this arrives and I do apologize for any tardiness.
