Question
Hello,

How are you doing. I was wondering has the prophecy in Ezekiel 11:16-17 been fulfilled or is it a future fulfillment coming to fruition in our present day. Also does Ez. 11:16-17 parallel the prophecy in Jer. 16:14-15. Meaning are they one in the same. Thank you for your expertise.

Answer
Dear Michael,

Thanks for writing.

From a Jewish perspective, the prophecies were not eschatological or apocalyptic. They referred to the return from the First Exile in Babylonia, not later events, whether at the time of Jesus or our own day.

The use of prophecies from the Hebrew Bible for later events, whether at the time of Jesus or our own day, is a Christian approach to our Hebrew texts and prophets.

Many thanks

Rabbi Dov
