Question
I teach at a Jewish Day School which belongs to the Reform movement. I am Israeli and teach now the subject of Israel(culture and history). I would like to find citations about israel in the prayers or other religious sources such as "If i forget jerusalem...,  G-D promise to Abraham, leshana haba'a biyerushalyim etc. Maily citations that show our connection to the land of Israel.

Answer
Dear Daphna,

Beruha Haba'a uv'hatzlaha.

Thanks for writing but this is an issue of curriculum in which the school Jewish Studies Director is the proper person with whom to meet.

If you can't get a resolution with him/her, then you might also see what software the school has. If they have, l'mashal, a siddur on software, then do a search in Hebrew for Yerushalayim, eretz Yisrael, etc. The search engine built into the software will bring up every tefilah in the siddur with those words. From there you can build a vocabulary and curriculum. It is what I would do if no one else would assist me.

Davka software has the siddur, among other software producers, on CDROM.

Good luck.

Experience

I have served on the National Youth Commission for more than 25 years and serve on the Boards of the Conservative Zionist movement MERCAZ and the World Council of Synagogues. I have always dual-families and taught candidates for conversion with a great sense of fulfillment. I am very proud of 25 years on the Jewish camping staff of Camps Ramah. My greatest source of pride is my family! Ask me about them, please!:-)
