Answer
Dear Wendy,

Thank you for writing.

You are to lauded for wanting to observe Jewish tradition, and perhaps in a meeting with you and your husband with your Rabbi he can be persuaded to join you in this observance.

The interpretation to your second question is best left to your Rabbi or the Rabbi with whom you met before he married you.  It would be inappropriate for me to contradict or comment in any way that would be contrary to that Rabbi's views, as he is your Rabbi.

Best wishes
