Conservatives - Globilization

Expert: Dennis - 12/5/2008

Question
Dear Expert Dennis
I am a geoghraphy teacher for secondary classes and I want to ask you the following question:
What is the difference between globilization and international?

Answer
Well I guess the question would be international what? Just being international (like a rock star) doesn't really mean anything other than it has something to do with more than one country.

Globalization on the other hand, implies some kind of interdependence or multi-national system. Usually we are talking about economics. In the "globalization" of the world, we have multiple countries depending on the goods and services of other countries to maintain their own standard of living.

Stock exchanges from different countries (and time zones) make it possible for you to trade stock options 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The "market" never closes. That would be one example of "globalization." Another example would be China manufacturing things for the U.S. market, or India supplying customer services for the U.S. market, while the U.S. sells/trades grain and foodstuffs to those countries. There is an interdependence between them that acts in unison. You can add to that other commodities and services, but what it generally means (and generally here is a HUGE generally) is that when one country can't / won't provide something for its people, another country does it for them. That would be the simplest definition for the term "globalization."

This could also extent to more esoteric things like culture. The U.S. has an impact on all cultures of the world because the people from other parts of the world view American culture (song, dance, sports, holidays, values, etc.,) and attempt to mimic, or at least admire, the American culture. This would be another form of globalization.
