Conservatives/Can't Mike Huckabee still win?
Expert: Lane - 2/8/2008
QuestionThe mainstream media has been declaring that John McCain is helped by Mitt Romney's withdrawal from the presidential race. But isn't Mike Huckabee really the one who benefits? If all of the conservatives who voted for Romney throw their support to Huckabee, even this late in the game, can't Huckabee still get the nomination? I think the mainstream media is refusing to discuss this possibility because they do not want a true conservative to win anything. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
AnswerHello, and thank you for your questions. While I do understand your point about Huckabee being helped by Romney's votes, I don't think it would be enough to send him off to a win. Those who supported Mitt Romney could possibly turn to Mike Huckabee, although I still doubt he would be able to get enough, because John McCain already has so much more delegates than Huckabee, and even if he were to get all of Romney's delegates, McCain still has a large lead.
One of the biggest travesties within the Republican Party right now is that many Conservatives disagree with McCain so much that they refuse to vote for him. This is a tragic way to think about this election. I am as Conservative as they come, and disagree with John McCain on a number of issues, but I also understand when strategy has to come before preference.
What I am saying is that McCain is the only Republican candidate who has any chance of winning the General, and even though Conservatives don't agree with him, don't we agree with him more than we do with any Democrat. Conservatives need to do what I am doing and suck it up and support the only man who can keep America on the right track, because we are in a time of war, and need real Republican leadership.
I hope I was able to answer your questions, if not please ask a follow-up. Thank you and have a great day.
