Conservatives - US politics for beginngers

Expert: Dennis - 3/5/2008

Question
Dear Dennis

hello, hope you are well.  I wonder if you can help?  I am from the UK and am planning to move to the US but I have a problem.  I don't know the first thing about US politics and I really want to read up on the topic before I go.  Just wondered if you knew of  good book along the lines of 'US Politics For Dummies'.  I found something similar, to that but according to the reviews you need to have a basic knowledge.  I seriously don't.  I mean I really don't know anything at all.  It's shameful really.  If you could recommend anything I would be most grateful.

Many thanks

Lucy

Answer
Actually, the politics for dummies is a pretty basic book. You can order it here: http://www.amazon.com/Politics-Dummies-Ann-DeLaney/dp/0764508873 - or -

you can try this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1592573282/ref=pd_cp_b_1?pf_rd_p=317711001&pf_r... which is more about government than politics, or

you can try a somewhat more advanced book that covers all the issues - http://www.amazon.com/We-People-Introduction-American-Politics/dp/0393929566/ref...

The politics for dummies book is probably where you want to start, but be aware that the author has a Liberal bias, and a lot of her examples put Democrats in a good light and Republicans in a bad light.
