I really like Vice President Cheney and I was wondering what is a reliable way to find out if he voted for Ross Perot or Bob Dole. I can find nothing either way. Do you know?
Answer -
Dear Neal,
Thanks for writing. What with our secret ballot system, I'm sure there isn't a reliable way to find out how VP Cheney voted. It wouldn't be in his interest to say he voted for Perot, so I wouldn't trust hearsay that claimed he said he did vote for Perot.
Have a great day and a great forever through Jesus!

Hi, and thank you. The problem is that I am the source of the hearsay and I am looking to confirm or dispell my suspicion. I was confused when Cheney was Bush's running mate because I thought I saw him on MacNeil/Lehrer Newshour in 1996 endorsing Perot. If I can ever find transcripts or copies of episodes, I'll look it up for sure. I'm switching from Reform Party to Republican, anyway, so I don't agree with the assumption that it is not in Cheney's interest. At this time, I think it will be helpful to prove that the Republican Party is the Reform Party. If you payed attention to what Democrats did to Ralph Nader, you would understand how we need the protection of operating within the Republican Party.
Answer -
Dear Neal,
I know exactly how frustrating it is to remember something and not be able to corroborate it. I have seen and even printed news online that gets pulled later and becomes inaccessible because the source figured out a politically incorrect implication not realized right away. I'm not sure what you remember would be politically incorrect enough to "shred" but there should be some way you could access something that was actually aired like that. Have you checked with big libraries, especially university libraries? They probably have access to such things and could help you search.
I see your point about enlarging the Republican "tent" to include Reform Party minded people being in Cheney's interest.
Best wishes on your efforts.

The Reform Party candidate will be running for Senate in Ohio as a Republican, so the last of us will have the opportunity for us to join in 2006. I'm sure that the Democrat's bullying of the little guy will be sounded out loudly if we get the chance. This is why I think I'm hearing spooky parallels from the media involving the 2008 election.
I have to wonder how Senator Clinton can refuse to debate the Reform Party if Cheney did vote for Perot? Fine! Republicans should exclusively debate independents and let Democrats debate themselves. Will they laugh at Nader, now?
Remember Bob Dole's "Republican Party is the Reform Party"? Why was James Carville on Meet the Press desperately insisting, "There is no reason why the Democratic Party can't be the Party of Reform"? Why did the American Reform Party website proclaim on the front page, "Reform Party Poised to be Number One"? That sounds so crazy, it can only make sense if Cheney voted for Perot. What did Pat B. mean when he asked how long has the collusion between Perot and the Republicans been going on?
Thank you for the encouragement. I've put some hours in the microforms at some libraries, but I've found nothing, yet. Lexis/Nexis is still behaving difficult with me and my offer to hire them to find the answer. I'm going to try to find a copy of the 1996 Almanac of American Politics next time, and I'm still in search of Newshour broadcast collections.
Keep the tent big! Cheney just might turn out to be my new hero! Thanks for the kind wishes.
AnswerBest Wishes for your candidate in Ohio. I checked with politics1.com and saw that Senator Mike DeWine's next election is 2006. So the one you mentioned would be in the Republican primary with DeWine I guess.
You might want to go online and ask some big city libraries or universities if they know how to find a MacNeil/Lehrer Newshour broadcast in 1996 that featured Cheney endorsing Perot. Or leave off "endorsing Perot" in your email if you think that might prejudice the recipient of your email. If you send that email to a dozen major libraries, you would surely get some leads.
I'm glad you care enough to be involved. May I encourage you to spend some time preparing for eternity also, while not letting up with efforts to improve what we have now?
Sincerely,
Priscilla Lyons
