AboutHelen Joan Casper Expertise Ever since I played "Pong" in the early 80's, I've been a video game aficionado. I can answer hardware & games questions about PSP (PlayStation Portable), all PlayStation (1,2,& 3), Wii, Wii Fit, GameCube, Nintendo DS, Nintendo (NES), Super Nintendo, Gameboy/Gameboy Advance, and antiquated systems (ColecoVision, Atari, Sega, etc). I can answer hardware questions about all systems (including PS1 - PS3, Wii, NES, SNES, PSP, DS, GBA, GB, Xbox and Xbox 360). I can also answer PC game questions, especially CounterStrike: Source, Vampire: Bloodlines, Half-Life 1&2, Portal, Team Fortress 2, and all Sims & Sims 2 questions. I am ESPECIALLY knowledgeable in Square-Enix (formerly SquareSoft) games such as ALL the Final Fantasy games (I can even tell you really obscure things about these games). If I haven't played the game yet I will research it and help you find the answer, renting the game if necessary. I can even answer questions dealing with the consoles themselves (hardware questions).
I cannot answer questions about Action Replay. I cannot answer questions about football, basketball, or wrestling sports games. I also have very limited knowledge about Xbox & Xbox 360 games unless they are cross-platform. If it is an independent game that has not been widely published and/or a game only released in some countries, I may not be able to help with it either (sadly!)
Experience I am also an expert here in games/roleplaying games, weddings, childbirth, and doulas. My husband is a computer programmer and one of the forefront coders for CounterStrike: Source scripts & mods. He has his own forums for coders/scripters at Mattie.Info. Question Hey Helen,
How are you doing?. I am Chocolate living in India. I am worried about my ps3, I bought myself a ps3 80GB on 6 Dec 07 & was working fine. Till the update 2.10 came out. I was happy with the fact that now i can see Divx format media on it. But then after a day or so i was playing Genji:Day of blade on it, First the game sound went off. I knew something went wrong but i kept on playing, when i finished the level it just got stuck on loading screen. As i restarted the console(power off/on) it never showed up an icon of Disc media... it stopped recognizing Blu-ray DVD's, DVD's, Cd's...everything i insert(only the discs). It can still catch up pen drives, can play music, ps3 game demos, can play movies & rest of the system works just fine. I tried restoring thru option Restore Ps3 system, also restore default setting. But was no help.
I got it from Hong Kong, i do have the warranty card, but its not valid in India. There's no customer care here for ps3. We do have a Sony authorized center here but to be honest i don't trust em'(They more like money hungry).
So here's me, i hope you can help. Is there any way i can get my Discs back running again ?

I came to know that now we are also getting hacked/Mod chip on ps3 consoles. Is that safe, if i put a MOD CHIP onto my ps3, will it be worth ?

Answer Mod chips completely void your warranty and, if installed incorrectly or if you get a bad one, can completely destroy your console. I don't recommend them unless you know what you're doing and are willing to take a chance.
It sounds like there is an issue with the optical eye of the laser that reads the discs. This is a hardware issue and not a software one so a system restore won't do anything. Something may have been on the disc which caused the laser to become obscured or for whatever reason it may have been knocked out of position entirely. If you really don't trust the Sony center, take it to another place that services blu-ray players, DVD players, computers, etc. However, I would at least take it to the Sony service center and see what they say as not everyone knows how to work on PS3 consoles.
