Question hello, i have a question about my ps2. i recently purchased ea sports nhl 09 and i cant get it to play, the system reads that the disc is in and after the "playstation 2" comes up on the screen i get a few red vertical lines and thats it, just a dark screen, is it the game itself? other games still read and work fine.
Answer Gday Tom,
You have yourself a weird problem for a brand new game. (And it not a game that should have problems as some of the DVD9/Dual Layer Games have for the PS2. I know there have been problems with cashing issues with the Xbox 360 and this game but not the PS2.)
About the only couple of things I would suggest is firstly inspect the disk both top and bottom for damage. Just remember the data is stored closer to the picture side of the disk than the shiny side of the disk so damage to the top of the disk can cause more problems than scratches on the shiny side of the disk.
Check for dirt or finger prints. Clean accordingly if needed.
Finally try it out on another PS2 and see if the results are the same. (I am leaning towards it being a problem with the disk rather than the unit because you have had no problems with other games.)
Occasionally you will get a new disk straight out of the box that does not work regardless of there being nothing physically wrong with it.
