Console Games (Nintendo, Sony etc.) and Arcade Games/Name of Arcade Game

Question
Hello, i realize in your description of your expertise you didn't list arcade games, but you seem to have such an extensive background i thought I'd give it a shot. I'm trying to remember the name of an early to mid 90's arcade game featuring a main character who was a child. It was a side scroller, and the weapons available to the character included a yo yo a boomerang and i believe a lasso. I sort of also remember a western theme possibly. Sorry if this is not your field, just thought i'd give asking a try

Answer
I am always glad to attempt to answer things outside my experience. It just depends on what type of question it is. For instance, asking my opinion of a certain game I have never played will not yield very good results as I have nothing to base an opinion on. This question however, is purely a factual inquiry about a particular game. So even though I don't have much experience with arcade games, I can tell you a few I have discovered, (and there are a lot) based on perusing various websites I happen to know about.

I am basing my search off the weapons you stated remembering as well as the possible wild west theme. There are two that stick out from the ones I have looked over as being possibilities. Both were released in the 90's.

The first is a side-scroller called Spin Master. This game has the hero wielding a yo-yo to start with and seems to have numerous desert locations in it. Although there is no mention of boomerangs or lassos.

The other is The COW Boys of Moo Mesa. One of the characters can use a lasso in this game, but the heroes are all humanoid cattle and not children. It also had four players who can play at the same time.

These are the two that seem to fit your descriptions from your memories somewhat, though neither fit exactly. If you are interested in where I found these possibilities at, you can try these websites:

http://klov.com/
http://www.arcade-museum.com/

Those two sites are where I found the two aforementioned games at. But if you simply want to check out some lists of Western games and Arcade games you can go here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Western_computer_and_video_games
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_arcade_games

Perhaps browsing through these sites will jog your memory better than me trying to take a shot in the dark based off of your very old memories. A word, name or picture might ring a bell.

Unfortunately, I cannot help you much more than that at the moment. Arcades were not where I spent my time in the 90's, or much at all.  I would be interested in knowing what this game is if you find it. I believe you can follow up on an answer here at a later time. Send me an update because I am curious. Also, if you remember anything else that might help, let me know as well. I wish you luck.

TOPICS I can answer questions about: Game Strategy, Recommendations (based on age or genre preference), History of a game, Recalling a game you played, Game music, Company or Creator info, and some simple system troubleshooting GENRES: My specialties are Adventure, RPG, Survival Horror, Action, and a small amount of Strategy and Puzzle. I avoid sports games like the plague, and have little interest in any racing games save for a few, F-Zero, Mario Kart and Wipeout being the main ones. Nor do I know many fighting games, mainly Bushido Blade and a few others. I am not much of a fan of First Person Shooters either. I am especially well versed in RPGs, particularly Final Fantasy and most of SquareEnix's other titles. GAMES: Not limited to the following. These games are series, and I know them all. There are MANY other individual ones. Feel free to ask and I will let you know if I can help you. Systems I plan on getting in the future are XBOX 360 and Wii U. I am also a big fan of emulators on the PC. I have many of the old 8-bit and 16-bit systems and ROMS for my computer and know a lot about them. These include NES, Super NES, Genesis, Turbografx, MSX, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and GBA.

Experience

I have been a video gamer for over 20 years. I started with the original NES way back in 1988 and have owned or played nearly every popular console since then. I have completed hundreds of games and played thousands. I have a large file cabinet filled with hundreds of hand-made maps, lists, and various strategies for many of the games I have conquered in the past two decades. I subscribe to 5 different game magazines to keep up to date on the newest stuff out there. I would officially call myself an expert on the subject of videogames. And if I don't know the answer, I can find out about it and direct you to someplace that does.

Publications
I have had three things published in Nintendo Power magazine as well as a piece of artwork. I also participate regularly on the GameFAQs forums. I am wanting to write FAQs for GameFAQs as well. I would also like to write columns for other video game magazines.

Education/Credentials
Experience with games baby, and lots of it. On the academic side, I am currently attending ITT Tech and am two quarters into an Associate's in Visual Communications. I will then be continuing for a Bachelor's in Video Game Design.

Awards and Honors
These are not academic awards. I am still working on those. These are video game related things of note about me. I do consider them honors as they are the most secret things in each of their respective games, and I am very proud of having found them. I am the discoverer of the Ryu Fireball in Megaman X, the Dragon Punch in Megaman X2, and the Golden Armor in Megaman X3. All three of those discoveries have appeared in Nintendo Power magazine. I have also broken the password systems for Megaman 4 and Megaman 5.
