Aboutgameusurper Expertise TOPICS I can answer questions about:
Game Strategy, Recommendations (based on age or genre preference), History of a game, Recalling a game you played, Game music, Company or Creator info, and System troubleshooting
GENRES:
My specialties are Adventure, RPG, Survival Horror, Action, and a small amount of Strategy and Puzzle. I avoid sports games like the plague, and have little interest in any racing games save for a few, F-Zero, Mario Kart and Wipeout being the main ones. Nor do I know many fighting games, mainly Bushido Blade and a few others. I am not much of a fan of First Person Shooters either. I am especially well versed in RPGs, particularly Final Fantasy and most of SquareEnix's other titles.
GAMES:
Not limited to the following. These games are series, and I know them all. There are MANY other individual ones. Feel free to ask and I will let you know if I can help you.
Actraiser, Alundra, Breath of Fire, Bushido Blade, Castlevania, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Donkey Kong, Dragon Warrior/Quest, Drakkhen/Dragon View, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, King's Field, Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver, Mana, Mario, Mega Man, Metal Gear Solid, Ninja Gaiden, Metroid, Parasite Eve, Resident Evil, Rygar, Silent Hill, Spyro, Star Fox, Suikoden, Tomb Raider, TMNT, Wild Arms, Xenogears/Xenosaga, Zelda, and Zone of the Enders
SYSTEMS:
I have recently added the Wii and PSP to my collection. NES, Super NES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Gameboy Color, GBA, DS, PS1, PS2 and PSP plus computer, but I'm not really a big computer gamer.
Systems I plan on getting in the future are XBOX 360 and eventually PS3 (When the price goes down...a lot) I am also a big fan of emulators on the PC. I have many of the old 8-bit and 16-bit systems and ROMS for my computer and know a lot about them. These include NES, Super NES, Genesis, Turbografx, MSX, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and GBA.
Experience I have been a video gamer for nearly 20 years. I started with the original NES way back in 1988 and have owned or played nearly every popular console since then. I have completed hundreds of games and played thousands. I have a large file cabinet filled with hundreds of hand-made maps, lists, and various stategies for many of the games I have conquered in the past two decades. I subscribe to 5 different game magazines to keep up to date on the newest stuff out there. I would officially call myself an expert on the subject of videogames. And if I don't know the answer, I can find out about it and direct you to someplace that does.
Publications Nintendo Power magazine, and I am thinking of writing for Gamegrene and GameFAQs in the future.
Education/Credentials Experience with games baby, and lots of it. Nothing formal if that's what you're wondering. Just good old playing and reading.
Question QUESTION: hi i would like to know if theres any6 downloading site for the psp that wont break the psp also i want to know what causes the breaking of psps
ANSWER: Unfortunately, as this question is worded, there is not much I can help you with. It is so general to the point that trying to answer it would be pointless and take forever. There are so many possible answers. There are two things I need to know to narrow things down so I can give you useful information.
1. What type of downloading site are you looking for? There are numerous things that can be downloaded onto the PSP. Are you wanting media, games, movies, music, emulators, firmware updates, what? I am assuming you are looking for things that will not give the PSP issues if you download them? Is this what you are referring to when you ask about things that won't break it?
2. Your question, "What causes the breaking of PSP's?" This is WAY too vague to be able to answer with any certainty and clarity. What type of breakage are you asking about? Internal, external, program errors, software problems? What kinds of malfunctions?
I would suggest, to narrow down the field of possible things you wish to know about the PSP, downloading, and 'breaking', you should visit these four wikipedia pages. This will allow you to gain an overall knowledge of the system and its capabilities. This is not my final answer for your question, but I need to know more specifics about what you want in order to be accurate in any response I give.
QUESTION: yes i was refering to any game downloading websites that wont damage the psp and is leagl and free. also if you know any websites to download firmwires
ANSWER: Alright, I am going to be upfront. I am not experienced in this sort of thing. I only use my PSP for playing music and games and storing photos and not much else. But I can direct you to several books and searches you might try.
These books cover many of the downloading and modding questions you may have, though most are not up to date. The most recent is from early 2007.
Rough Guide to the PSP by Nicholas Gilewicz, Sean Mahoney
PSP Hacks by C.K. Sample
Hacking the PSP 2nd Edition by Auri Rahimzadeh
PSP Hacks, Mods and Expansions by Dave Prochnow
Secrets of the Playstation Portable by Joel Durham
These are some of the top websites you can visit that come back with a Google search 'psp downloads'. I have not used downloads from the net, so you may want to download a few things from the official Sony site before attempting things from elsewhere, to get the hang of it:
You may also want to try searching for 'psp firmware', however, be warned that changing your firmware below a certain point can cause a phenomenon known as 'bricking' where your PSP will no longer accept firmware updates and will have to be sent back to Sony for repair. Utilize firmware changes at your own risk. You can read about homebrew options as well as the 'bricking' issue here:
Your best bet for help on this would be to find some people in your area through video game and computer stores, or also gaming shops, that have experience in this area and can direct you on how to do these things in person. This way, you can ask questions and learn from someone who has done it before so as to avoid any unforeseen pitfalls.
Depending on what types of modifications and downloading you want to do, this can be your best option. The PSP gets updated so regularly that things that worked several months ago may not work now. If you can speak with someone who is into this type of thing, they can inform you of what to look for and what to avoid. If you are just wanting surface layer changes like themes, extras media players or emulators, they are a lot safer than say a firmware change or menu interface change or addition.
Sorry I could not help you out more specifically. But I do not wish to say things that I can not back up or do not know for sure. This is the courses of action I would take for myself before fiddling with the system beyond what it was designed for. Feel free to inquiry with another expert here and see if you can get further assistance. Good luck Kenny.

QUESTION: ok i have 1 more question which is if i can play downloaded games in the psp with custom firmwire but no pandoras battery and magic memory stick. also is a custom firmwire dangerous for a psp. 1 more thing can you give me the guide to putting custom firmwire into a psps memory.
thank you for all your help.
Answer As I stated in my previous answer, I do NOT have experience with doing any of what you are asking. Anything I say to you is merely going off of things I have read so far but have not done physically. And I have no need nor plans to do so. Therefore, I feel I am not the right person to ask about this.
The things you are wanting to mess with are things that can potentially damage or at best disturb a PSP's operation if done improperly. I would highly suggest looking online for a guide to psp firmware as well as the pandora's battery and magic memory stick thing. I do not know about this stuff other than reading the articles I sent you.
From what I have read, custom firmware can be dangerous, especially when downgrading from the current versions. This can cause the 'brick' condition as I mentioned earlier. If a custom firmware simply adds or alters features, it has less potential to be harmful than those that completely change firmware versions.
This is FAR outside the realm of my knowledge. And I probably would not mess with it anyway as I have no desire or need to. I am totally happy with the way my PSP works. I really think you should try to find someone in your local area or at least on some forum online (perhaps on a gaming site or computer site) that can answer questions and is in the know about this topic. I am not. Finding a knowledgeable PSP hacker will help you far more than I could. You can also try youtube for possible instructional videos and perhaps the means to contact those that have done these things.
Also ask around here, as you are likely to find someone who may know more about this than me. Feel free to ask me other questions in the future and I will try to help you, but I cannot answer anymore questions on this topic. For those who reference this series of questions in the future, I believe you can add to our conversation at a later time if you find a solution to your query. As will I if I run into anyone who can help in a reasonable amount of time. I would like to know the answer myself but do not have the tech talent to fiddle with this sort of thing. And I will not risk damaging my PSP to answer this.
