About Brian Jay
Expertise
I'm moving into answering questions relating to the Xbox 360 and related games. I can still answer questions on previous topics (Gamecube/GBA stuff) but please note I will not be able to help at a full capacity. As always, if I dont know the answer I'll do my best to search for it or point you to the best possible alternative for getting an answer (Updated 31/08/06 and about time too).

Experience
I've been a gamer for pretty much the last 14/15 years, so I feel I know my fair share about the subject. I spent the early years with Nintendo, the mid years with both Sony and Nintendo and I'm now just enjoying my Xbox 360, so I have experience with all three groups. I'm not much of a technical buff, but just like before if I cant answer a technical question personally I'll do my best to search for it or point you out to the next best source (Updated 31/08/06)

Subject: Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter Problem

Question
Brian,

I bought an official Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter today, and after following the instructions cannot get the console to recognize it. I have searched for hours trying to find the problem/solution but I'm having no luck. When I plug the adapter into the Xbox, a steady red light shows on the adapter, which means that it is ready to be set up. However, when I run a test for Xbox Live, it shows that the network adapter is disconnected. Also the wireless area of the settings page is grayed out. I connected the adapter to a friend's 360, which has a working adapter, and it wasn't recognized there. I even took it back to the store and exchanged it for another one, resulting in the same problem. Do you know what I should do? Thanks

Answer
Hi Dallas.

Just a couple things before I can try and find a way to fix this. They may sound simple, but be sure just to check just in case.

1. No Ethernet cord plugged into the machine?

2. Have you tried to see if any thing else works in the usb port you tried? Or have you tried using another usb port?

3. When you tried it on your friends machine, did you use ~your~ internet to do so? Basically I gotta know if your wireless is working on  both ends...

I'll get back to you asap once I know bout these things first.

Thanks

Brian
