Question Hi can you tell me does ps3 play mpeg or wmv files, also how do you play them is it just a matter of the files on your cd/dvd and it will play THanks
Answer Hi Rid,
Thanks very much for your question. I am assuming you mean video files, but I'll tell you about music files too.
Here are the types of files that can be played under music:
So in answer to your question regarding music files, yes they can be played.
Here are the types of files that can be played under video:
Memory Stick Video Format
- MPEG-4 SP (AAC LC)
- H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Main Profile (AAC LC)
MP4 file format
- H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile (AAC LC)
MPEG-1 (MPEG Audio Layer 2)
MPEG-2 PS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2, AAC LC, AC3(Dolby Digital), LPCM)
MPEG-2 TS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2)
AVI
- Motion JPEG
AVCHD (.m2ts / .mts)
DivX
WMV
- Motion JPEG (Linear PCM)
- VC-1(WMA Standard V2)
Just a couple of hints:
1. To be able to play WMV files in video, you need to go to settings, then to system settings and 'Enable WMV Playback'
2. DivX and WMV format copyright protected files cannot be played.
So, in answer to your question regarding video files, yes they can be played as long as you enable the WMV playback.
As for your second question, I believe it is for the files on your CD/DVD and your Hard Drive. If you choose to use a memory stick, that should work perfectly fine too.
