How many sound channels are available on the Playstation 3? Thank you for your help!

I would assume that it would be limited to the media it is using and the output/encoding of the disk/movie/game (Which would vary)  The maximum amount of channels currently available on a Blue-ray disk I belive is only 8 channels.

But again it depends on what the disk is capable of.  Say a Movie encoded with Dolby Digital (DTS) would be 5 Channels, where as a Dolby Digital HD would be 7.  (Stereo is only 2 channels (Right & Left) where as surround usually starts at 3, Left Right & Back)
