Question
I have had my 'portable' playstation 1 for years now and it has always worked on my television until I got a different one. The make is "Pacific" and has only 3 sockets for headphones, a scart cable and an aerial. It's a very simple television! I have my aerial connected to an RFU adaptor (which then goes into the aerial socket on my tv, the other end goes into my PS1 where the socket's called "AV MULTI OUT"), so that both the aerial and my PS1 should be connected. I then have the grey cable plugged into the PS1, connected to the mains (PS1's socket's called "DC IN 7.5V"). The disc is going round inside the PS1 and the power light is green but I have tried every channel possible and I have no idea what to try now. I've tried fiddling around with the plugs connected to every socket... But nothing. I can see no video and hear no audio, can you help? Thanks, Jenny.

Answer
Gday Jenny,

Okay something to check.

Simplest thing is are you getting channels thru the Aerial/Coax on the back?  Occasionally there is a menu option that will switch your TV between Aerial/Coax/SCART you may have to adjust this to Aerial or Coax/Cable setting first to get a signal.  Check the TV settings first)

If your are connection your PS1 thru the aerial/coax cable on the back of your TV your should have a PS1 RF cable that will probably have a box with a switch on it that says CH3/CH4 (In some cases CH6).  This is what channel you have to tune it to depending what the switch is switched too.  (Occasionally these RF adaptors go out and don't work or a cable breaks in them).  If it is a AV cable with a Yellow White and Red end this is a different connection and needs to be connected differently.  The only thing I would try checking is possibly wiggle the connector in the PS1 occasionally those cables don't contact at all.

If your are connecting it directly to the back of your TV you have to tune to whatever channel is selected on you RF box to that channel on you TV (It's either going to be Channel 3 or 4 or 6).  If you are not getting a signal

If you watch you PS1 when powered up the disk will spin then spin up to speed (Faster) then spin down.  If the PS1 or disk is damaged it probably would not do this but spin up then maybe stop.  So I am thinking either you have a wrong setting on the TV set somewhere or that the RF Cable on your PS1 is broken and needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps.
