Question I have a slim PS2 in my room and a PC that is connected to a wireless router that is downstairs. I believe that it is possible to connect the PS2 to the computer by using an ethernet cable, but then how do I get the PS2 online? What connection settings do I have to enter into the wireless settings on my PS2? I have entered the same numbers for my computer, but this doesn't seem to work. The test at the end of the setup says it is successful, but then when I try to connect to the internet, it says that it can't contact the DNS Server. If you could help me out with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
Answer Gday Jeremy,
Your theory is correct and you could connect your PS2 to you computer which is wireless. But it is not as simple as just connecting an Ethernet cable between your PS2 and PC then setting a few settings on your PS2.
What you are going to have to do first is set up a network bridge on your computer so your computer will act as the interface between your PS2 and your wireless router. So you will first have to have an understanding on how computer networks work. Hopefully you network card in your PC is capable of bridging, if not you are SOL. You going to have to run a hard wire.
I would suggest you check out how to make a network bridge on your computer. Here....
This should help you out with the bridge. The settings should be similar on your PC as your PS2 for the actual network hook up once you have a bridge set up. But this also depends on how your bridge is set up on your computer as well as how your wireless router is set up to talk to other computers and the Internet. (If they are DHCP or static IP addresses for starters. If you have no idea what that is? Umm this is not going to be easy....)
Maybe running a hardwire back to the router from your PS2 is going to be the easiest route.
Good luck in hooking your PS2 up. (But you need to set up that bridge on you PC first to get it to work the way you described.)
