I am having difficulties with my Super Nintendo. I recently dug it out of my closet in dire need to play it:) I believe I have it hooked up to the television correctly. When I turn it off or on it makes a static noise and flickers, although, there isn't a picture just a black screen. I also believe it is cleaned correctly. I have tried a different game hoping it was just the game pak, but the problem still persist. Do you have any recommendations or suggestions for me? I appreciate your time and your help. Thank You.
Answer Gday Jason,
Hopefully it just some dust in you machine that is causing this or maybe a cabling problem and not that your machine has given up? The Machine Power light is coming on right? (If yes then the console is at least getting power.)
I believe you have it connected right as it flickers if turned on that's a good thing. But just in case...
The SNES has both an RF and AV connector. You simply have to connect the RCA jack (Yellow, Red, White) into one of the TV inputs. (Usually the there are usually labeled as AV) Then connect the black connector into the Back of the SNES. You then have to change the TV input to the corresponding AV input. (Usually on the remote/TV it will have a Input or AV button) Once this is on the Console should send out a signal and you should get something on the TV. (the good things is this cable is used for the N64 and Gamecube so if you have one of these systems you can check to see if the cable is bad or not)
The RF connector is connected directly into the cable jack. Some RF jack have a channel selector on it usually 3 and 4. NB the SNES console also have one of these make sure this is on the same channel as the RF if it has one. Then tune you TV to the correct TV channel either 3 or 4.
I believe the problem is the cartridge interface just being dirty and you going to need to clean you SNES cartridge slot.
Firstly get a cleaned Cartridge (One you have cleaned with a Q-tip and alcohol, even nail polish remover, so to remove all the dirt.) Then apply liberally with your chosen cleaning fluid with a q-tip to the cartridge interface. Then jam it in and out of your SNES about half a dozed times. Then reclean the cartridge. (It should be dirty because of the junk in the SNES.) Repeat if need be. After doing this a few times your SNES should read the cartridges again.
