Question hello i just wanted to asked you something. i just bought in ebay the resident evil 5 collectors edition from a seller in the UK i didit because as far as i know the ps3 is a region free console but i've reading some forums in the internet saing that because of the PAL region of the european games the ps3 of north america will not be able to read the game. if you can answer me ASAP would be great cause if they're not compatible i will cancel my order. i dont have a HD TV. thnx for your time. regards
Answer Gday Dave,
The problem lies really in your TV and not your PS3. Now the PS3 games are region free but they really don't like running in the wrong video mode. North America and Japan use NTSC television standards, or 480i, while Europe uses PAL standards, or 576i. So unfortunately your PS3 will play the game fine but it will refuse to output the signal to your regular TV. (You probably will get a message like This game not supported (80028F10)
If you had a HD TV you could set up your PS3 and TV to 720p. (Which is a standard all PS3 titles will output to)
So without a HD TV it will not really work. I would cancel the order unless you have a NEW HD TV coming soon.
