Console Games (Nintendo, Sony etc.) and Arcade Games/1080p HDMI 60hz

Question
i recently bought a new tv (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5295542/Trail/searchtext%3E1080...) and a HDMI cable so i can play my 360 games in hd, the thing is that when i play them in 1080p 60hz the picture is an inch to the left (leaving a gap on the right) when i change the settings to 1080i 60hz its fine,
asthe tv says on the web site the tv is 50hz, could this be the reason why the picture is to the left as id like to play my games in 'full HD' i.e 1080p

any suggestions, thanks

Answer
Gday Andrew,

Being in the UK the TV should run at 50hz and not 60hz.  1080i is Full HD the same as 1080p.  Although a lot of people like to call it Full HD which is an incorrect term  Although the 1080i is Interlaced Scan while 1080p Progressive Scan really you are talking about 2 passes to build an image compared to 1 in progressive but at 0.03 of a second unless you have a heap of fast movement on a huge TV or some sort of super human eyes you should not notice that huge a difference.  But yes Technically 1080p is a better.

The only thing I can think of is you either have a setting you need to adjust maybe on your TV or X-box.  Since the line only appears when you switch your TV from 1080i to P I would guess it might be on your Xbox.  On you Xbox go into Xbox Dashboard, Settings then Video and make sure your Xbox is outputting in the standard that you want it too.

Hope this helps
