Question I have a wii installed and want to add a PS3, but I have no idea how to hook up a PS3. What would I need in order to be able to keep both ready to play whenever I want to play one?
Answer Gday Carla,
That would really depend on what type of TV you have and what input it has.
Wii can be connected via AV, S-video or Component Cables.
While the PS3 can be connected via AV, S-video Component or HDMI cables.
Now to get the best picture quality you probably want to hook up your gaming units with the highest quality of cables. (PS3 would be HDMI and Wii is component)
Now depending on your TV if you have multiple of these you could simply plug both in different ports on the TV. (At out house we have the PS2 on AV, Wii on Component, DVD on HDMI, PS3 on HDMI and XBOX also on HDMI all separate connectors because my TV has it)
However if your TV only has one of these connectors there are cables out there that will allow you to plug in you PS3 & Wii to the TV because it has multiple connectors at the end. These are available for AV, S-video and Component. If you look on Amazon or ebay with the words 'Wii PS3 Component' it should show you one. you can leave both hooked up at the same time just remember to only turn one on at once or else the stronger signal will cancel out the other unit.
