Congratulations on figuring out how Ascii works in text mode.  Now find the ¿ on the keyboard.

To your problem if you are using a PC I probably guess that maybe it's no an official copy and that could be the reason it freezes. (Don't download off Torrents)

PS2 %26 Xbox I found guess wither a dirty/scratched or damaged disk, check and clean the disk.  (Although I have read if you have far too many cheats enabled at once the game can occasionally hang, although that a long shot)
